How to increase train access safety
Masats will be showing its solutions for increasing safety in stations at the UITP Expo in Barcelona.
The gap between the train and the platform poses a safety hazard during passenger boarding especially in stations with curved platforms where this distance is even more pronounced.
To address this problem, MASATS has developed a Mechanical Gap Filler (MGF), model GF1, which bridges the gap between the train door threshold and the platform. The GF1 is usually installed into the station platform and its movable plate extends and retracts in conjunction with the train arrival or departure. The GF1 deployment can be performed either automatically when the train doors open, or remotely from the driver’s desk. The MGF can be integrated as a “stand alone” solution or in combination with a Platform Barrier System.
The primary purpose of the GF1 is to eliminate the risk of accidental falls into the tracks while providing a safe access to passengers in particular for the elderly ones or those travelling with luggage or strollers. Further to that, the abridgment of the gap provides a seamless access that is essential to people with reduced mobility as they can access the platform / train without further assistance. The integration of the GF1 creates a safe access environment giving passengers confidence while facilitating mobility and reducing train delays.
Composite materials have been employed for the main GF1 components, thus increasing its durability and resistance to corrosion, reducing weight and enhancing electrical isolation.
It is equipped with a simple and reliable drive mechanism that includes a revolutionary next generation actuator able to deploy the movable plate very fast. The stroke can be adjusted to the requirements of each station and its unique 3-in-1 locking selector provides flexibility to all operations.
The GF1 and the Adaptable Platform Doors (PASD) will be on display at the UITP fair to be held in Barcelona from the 4-7 of June 2023.
